The Importance of Strength Training

Sets of five, you can get strong doing sets of five for a couple, three years. The way you get strong is your muscles grow. In cross sectional area, they get bigger. Muscles hypertrophy as the mechanism by which they get strong. If you don't challenge yourself on a regular basis and for a novice a regular basis means three days a week, you're not applying enough stress to cause the system to change.
