Keeping Track of the Relationship
With training, your brain learns to keep track of the things you need to know to use the language correctly. It's not terribly surprising that certain kinds of social cognition pops up in languages where you have to keeping track of whether your uncle is on your mother's side or your father's side and whether they're older than your father. So it takes kids, little kids a while to master this system.
