When I was a young manager, I felt the ageism working against me. It's one of those things. You just need to be aware of it and maybe you can fight it in different ways but at least awareness helps you. A really good leader is willing to make certain hard decisions when needed for that team. So humility is not just a lack of confidence. Sometimes doing the right thing can mean that you do the unlikable thing.
Whether we'd like to believe it or not, age is a signal that people judge others by. In a professional setting, it can signal your level of experience and for that reason, it can be difficult to earn the trust of a team, if they happen to be older than you.
