As a public speaker and by nature, a kind of shy and initially socially awkward person with probably tendencies toward anxiety in my own case. I found that I started doing this little trick before I went on stage or even the first few moments when I'm on stage to get a feeling of the suffering in their faces. And as soon as I started focusing on their suffering, it immediately mobilized my social engagement system,. which then calmed my heart rate and had all kinds of wonderful visceral effects.
