Include Veteran Teachers Early

Has this ever happened to you?

You are standing in front of your faculty about to introduce a new initiative, policy or school-wide roll out of some sort. Before you even open your mouth, you notice one of your veteran teachers seated at the back of the room. After you say your first three sentences, you notice that this veteran teacher has their arms crossed, they look upset and they are whispering to a colleague while maintaining eye contact with you.

Here we go…

Just writing those words made me feel a little weird in my stomach. I have had this happen to me many times and each time it felt discouraging, frustrating and annoying. You already know that you have a battle on your hands because you have a veteran teacher who is going to be super resistant to this change.
