England's political society was irrevocably split into two factions that had good reason to hate each other. Far from healing that divide, the Love Day highlighted it and sharpened it. The crisis of authority had been going on for pretty much King Henry's entire reign. If the King wasn't the King for everybody, but for a faction, then was he really the legitimate King? Should he really be ruling at all?
