Theology Offers Certainty About the World
For people with a history of trauma, we tend to think that we use reason and logic to choose our theological beliefs. But in fact, what's really driving us is desperation to find rest from the fragmentation and chaos inside an attempt to find some solid ground on which we can base our life. A particular theological system appeals to us first and foremost because it regulates our dysregulated bodies. It offers a certainty about the world. The more certain you become, the less fragmented you feel.
