The Benefits of a Portfolio Diet

A portfolio diet high in plant sterols and the soy protein was shown to have the same lipid lowering effect as a statin. Lowering your LDL-C by 30%, which is pretty high. The issue with these studies is that because they're relatively short, it's very hard to prove that just because a diet or any intervention for that matter lowers LDL-C, that that actually converts into protection against cardiovascular disease.
