So one thing is that while you're underlying food drive is very high, your degree of depletion and thus hunger and cravings is high. That constant baseline mini fight or flight response that doesn't go anywhere. It has all sorts of downside, of course, it prevents you from getting good sleep, but makes everything unpleasant.
