Dr Phil Howell is being funded by the BBSRC to find ways in which we can scale up lentil and chickpea production. He's doing this by sourcing and trialing varieties from different parts of the world. If he's successful, it could help solve a wide range of problems in the UK's future food system. The fresh produce shortage has brought back into focus the unseasonal foods usually sourced from thousands of miles away.
