Nesley's adds for lacto gin advertised that it was for use when breast milk fails. Nesley took advantage of this system by promoting the view that breast feeding is complicated and prone to failure. Racism was also a factor in their add campaigns by playing on the assumption of white superiority, i e, white women do not breast feed, therefore you should not either. Each of thetactics were meant to instil fear in mothers about breast feeding and get them hooked on formula.
