The Power of Habits

When I started getting to the habit of healthy eating and the habit of consistent weight training and exercise, I made sure everyone in my company got into those same habits. It's very powerful to have what we would call like a sacred space somewhere you can go for at least an hour where even if you're not being uplifted by the people around you, you're not be held back by them either. So if you want to do yoga and the rest of your family doesn't care about that, then you can go to a yoga studio where you're surrounded by people who do that for at leastan hour. You know, that was so important to me. When I started getting to the habit of healthy eating and the habit of consistent weight training and exercise, I made sure everyone in my company got into those same habits. And so now people in the company run Spartan races together. We help each other out in the gym. I showed up at work the other day and someone was making a green smoothie, made one for me as well. And so we all keep each other in the zone and we all keep each other dedicated to our habits. The only difficult part is sometimes someone might change jobs or go to another company and all of a sudden their health goes to hell because they certainly go to an environment where they are no longer with everyone who's eating healthy and working out regularly. But that's such a powerful idea. I guess it helps when we are taking on a habit, especially a health, a fitness habit or a learning habit

to encourage the entire family or the entire company to join. Even if you can't do that because sometimes it's very hard, right? People change jobs or your family doesn't support the habit that you're trying to build. If you want to work on a book and you are distracted at home all the time and the rest of the people that are around you, your roommates, your family or whatever, don't support that goal, then you can find a new coffee shop that you don't have any habits associated with so far. And this becomes the writing coffee shop you want. You turn your phone off, you spend 20 minutes there, you're done and that's like your safe space for that habit. I think it's important to have spaces where habits can grow and blossom, where they're supported or at the very least where they're not conflicted.
