The Cold Start Problem
If there aren't enough users on a social network, no one to interact with, everyone's going to leave. If a workplace chat product doesn't have all your colleagues on there, it's not going to be adopted by the whole office. At Uber, where Big Chaney used to work, the more users that join the app, then the more likely it would be that riders would quickly find someone to take them from A to B. It'd be like the telephone. It gets more valuable with the more people who's on it and so forth. So it happens in every place where there is a network effect, where it does increase in value.
