The Effects of Exercise on Energy Deficit
Exercise is doing lots of other things, so it is obviously contributing to energy demand. We know that studies that have combined diet and exercise together are much more effective than just using diet on its own. It's not as effective as a weight loss intervention on its own, but it will still contribute to an energy deficit. Once you've lost that weight, it seems to help people to be able to maintain that weight better.
