The powerful idea is what are you trying to measure? So here's the perfect example. You go to a company and they said, yesterday we had 72,000 people bookmark an article. And I'll ask them, okay, great. What is that a proxy for? Now there's two answers. One is it's a proxy for how many times people bookmark an articles. That's about as close as it can get. Your current proxy for that is the number of people that bookmark. The measure is this. A lot of things we measure in product about product behavior or product love or product delight isn't really a proxy for anything. This is much more tightly linked than traditional business metrics
