They found that among folks who had more than approximately five hours of discretionary time in the day we're also less happy. Cassie: People with excesses of free time felt satisfied in their lives because they craved a goal to give them life purpose. But this doesn't mean we should all work ourselves to the bone to fill our days, she says.
