Cross Training

Cross training is a great mental break for runners, says Darcy Gohead. It can also be used to help older athletes with their fitness levels. Cross training should not be forced into your programme just because it's a cross training activity. If you don't like cycling or back country skheing do not force it into your programme - and that's what you're supposed to do. The best way to prepare for an ultramarathon is by doing lots of running in the lead-in period prior to the event.
