The Evolution of Artificial Intelligence
Robin Hanson talks about this idea of M's, which is like you scan someone's brain and then you determine what information processing is happening in the brain. And then you duplicate that on a computer. You could just have like a de novo AI doesn't emerge from a brain scan that counts as a mind in some relevant sense. If these things are like doing most of the useful work in the future, you might think that they'll kind of rapidly evolve because they might be possible to directly edit them.
