The Odd Ball Effect

The odd ball effect is the idea that surprise somehow, stretches time. A study conducted by a guy named david eagleman says our brains kind of get bored with the brown shoe picture when we see it for the first time. The density of those notes seems to be a good proxy for how much time has passed. As life becomes more routine, they become less novel and there are fewer odd balls tossed in the mix. It's like seeing your alarm clocks constantly after novelty after novelty.
