The original, back before we had the concept, before raman added the gpu back end to android, skia was all there was. It was just sophoar base rendering. So until androy's three point o canvas was purely based on skia and itself to a render, then we needed, for various reasons, a gp render. That does, what doesGP do? Tese days data structures. It sets up gvolcan, but no lot riht. It also enables some of the things tat were probably to talk about, the dal, but more like ripple drawables and other things like that, to happen without u i thread interaction.
