At the absolute peak performance, often part of what someone has done is they've played a better metagame than other people. Warren Buffett is partly one of the reasons he's so rich is that he's very good at reading balance sheets and income statements to find which companies are cheap. He spent a long time getting a reputation as the person you'd want to sell your company to after Berkshire Hathaway. If you had to choose, if you're going to be rich, no matter what, you might be a little bit less rich selling to Warren Buffett than selling to KKR or another bio firm.
