Lincoln's people arrive in Chicago for the convention and they discover that the campaign so poorly organized. Nobody has even booked a room for their convention headquarters, which was absolutely essential if they were going to have any chance. So a man named David Davis, who was a circuit court judge that who knew Lincoln very well showed up in Chicago and discovered they hadn't even rented a room and he just took charge. Seward's great manager, Thurlough Weed, came to Chicago that same day and he was going to use his money and power to do everything he could to get Seward nominated.
