The Effects of Interval Training on Performance

A short term period of high intensity exercise elicits a bunch of physiological adaptations that would appear to be positive. And you do get an acute performance increase as well. So fitness will acutely go up within a, you know, a standard two to four week period. But 50% of those 43 individuals were probably showing signs of overtraining. The brain is trying to adapt to the stress and it does it by saying to the adrenal glands via the pituitary, make more cortisol,. This is a stress hormone which is going to temporarily make us adapt better for various reasons. You keep doing that cortisol has a lot of side effects on your body such as bad blood sugar and fat metabolism.
