The Buddha's Mindfulness of Mental Factors
There are 14 unwholesome mental factors, four of which are always present in an unskillful state. And the fourth and last category is comprised of what the Buddha called the 25 beautiful factors of mind. Whenever we are identified with any of them, we are reinforcing both the concept and the felt sense of self. We build a super structure of self on top of what are actually momentary changing conditions. When we apply mindfulness to this aggregate of sunkhara of mental factors, we see that each one of them is simply arising out of particular conditions, expressing its nature, and passing away.
