In three 96 b c, the romans finally defeated the chief etruscan city of ve after a ten years siege. After the capture of ve, the Romans quickly consumed the entirety of the etruscan territory within the emerging roman republic. But two back to back events which happene around this time in roman history would have an exact opposite impact on Rome. The invasion of celtic speaking gauls from the north, who sacked rome in three 90 b c. It was a very tramatic event for the romans and severely affected their psyche.
