How much fluid you lose through sweating is going to drive how much fluid you need. Typical sweat rates and there's a good paper out from Lindsey Baker. Exercise intensity in the environment also plays a huge role, especially for ultra runners. There are other trace minerals that are lost in sweat, but really sodium and chloride that are the major ones we're looking at.
