Using Manipulatives to Teach Mathematical Skills
As mathematicians and math teachers, we tend to be already very fluent in working in the abstract. To kind of think it from a novice's point of view, can be quite difficult. Our CPD just for using counters for positive and negatives and adding and subtracting, etc. is to actually see how the manipulative conveys the meaning.
