The Dissolution of the Rump Was a Military Coup
No one knows the contents of the bill the rump was actually debating seriously, cromwell grabbed it off the table and no one has seen it since. The council of state set up an assembly of a hundred and forty members representing every county in land,. plus six members each for scotland and ireland. Members would be nominated by a convention of army officers, and then a majority vote would confirm them. They are sneeringly referred to as 'barebones parliament' because there were quite a few people born with low zealots.
