Taekwondo - The Writer and the Elephant
The writer and the elephant is a metaphor used by social psychologist Jonathan Hight. He talks about how your subconscious incorporates your physical being, like your nervous system or amygdala. In sparring you have to perceive what they're going to do in the future based on something that they are. And then you have to instinctively react to it so you can make the right counter move. It's all very intimidating and takes a lot of practice.
