The Forest Route

Alana walked around the side of the cottage. Jack and Harry excitedly bounding off her head as usual. She wondered how many new and exciting smells they were picking up on. Out here in the middle of the countryside, the dogs didn't need harnesses or collars. They could be free. The lane soon turned into a narrower path and led into the trees. Dappled sunlight lay on the ground, streaming in between the pines. Leaves covered the path and due to the dry weather, they provided a satisfying crunch with each step Alana took.
