CHAPTER

Tuberculosis in Ancient Mummies

Skeletal evidence of tuberculosis in Egyptian mummies dating from around 3,700 BC. Researchers can do post-mortem diagnosis on skeletons that are thousands of years old. We've also got skeletal evidence of TB dating back a few thousand years in other old world regions such as India and China. Another thing we have, and this is really exciting, we have skeletal evidence ofculosis in a mummy from Peru dating back to almost 3,000 years ago. That means that tuberculosis was in the Americas long before the European invasion.
