The Four Stages of Habit Formation
All habits, and possibly the majority of human behavior, go through these four stages. Cue can be anything that catches your attention like a phone buzzing in your pocket. The sescond step is craving - this is about how you interppret the cue. Then the third step is the response, and that's just the action that you take. And then finally, there's the fourth stage which is the reward. This serves a couple purposes: It satisfies the craving before it takes any action to do so. But experiences that are have a consequence rather than a reward aren't rewarding.
