Anchoring as a Priming Effect

Anchoring is a priming effect which selectively evokes compatible evidence. People adjust less stay closer to the anchor when their mental resources are depleted, either because their memory is loaded with digits or because they are slightly drunk. Insufficient adjustment is also a source of tension between exasperated parents and teenagers who enjoy loud music in their room. We can now see why amos and i did not realize that there were two types of anchoring. The research techniques and theoretical ideas we needed did not yet exist.
