Psychologists morton douch and harold gerard carried out an experiment on college students. They asked them to commit themselves publicly, privately and not at all to their initial decisions. After receiving new evidence suggesting that those judgments were incorrect, the students were then given the chance to change their estimates. The results were quite clear: Those who had never written down their first choices were the least loyal to those choices.
