The Cycle of Avoidance

When we experience discomfort, our natural urge is to avoid it or get rid of it. And so what often will show up in an example like that is that we decide that we will procrastinate and avoid doing it. So the procrastination is a form of avoidance. We're avoiding the discomfort that comes with having to do the assessment or the assignment. So you avoid it. In that moment, what happens very rapidly in that decision is that you get a feeling of relief. So that discomfort goes away.
