Introduction
The first four speeches in plato's symposium are about the god of love, aros. Aros was understood by the greek culture to be the force of love. Each speaker adds some element that builds on the previous speakers' work. Not everyone agrees with the idea that these speeches build upon one another. But this interpretation is not my own; it comes from friedrich nitius who wrote an essay for schopforta last year.
