Platonism and the Principle of Unity

The idea that reality derives from a single principle of unity will become fundamental in the platonism of late antiquity. In those traditions, there was constant debate about whether this single first principle is beyond our understanding or comprehensible. Spucippus and xenocrates anticipate this debate. Is god so transcendent that he surpasses our concepts and our language? Or is he sort of like us, but better? A mind that can think about everything, instead of only a few things at a time?
