The magazine industry, which I was working in at the time, and the fashion industry were all struggling mightily. And so we see these industries start to sort of reckon with the power of bloggers and the power of Instagrammers 10 or 15 years ago. So this has been going on for a long time and that is what actually got me interested in this as a research area because I saw how the early influencer industry was reshaping how information and culture were produced.
