discuss this many times throughout the year but when you look at athletes always compare it to cyclists if you if you're a potentially a good cyclist you can look at what's piquil and you can say that person at the age of 16 years of age is doing enough to be a potential world-class cyclist can you do the same in in athletics
Speaker 1
to some degree and I mean speed is the easiest because you're either hybrid or you don't you're fast or you're not so you it's over 60 meters or 40 if it's a young kid you can say okay there's speed there and you can develop speed to some degree you can improve your technical abilities your biomechanics can improve and you'll get faster but if you're looking for a person with the ability to run sub 10.1 for for men that makes you national level sub 10 for elite or 11.2 for maybe for women 11.4 you you're constrained by genetics and you can assess those with some basic tests for the other disciplines it's more difficult because you know like a middle distance runner has to have a minimum speed there's you have to you know like you're not going to be a successful 1500 run if you can't run a 47 second 48 400 yeah but that's not that fast I mean it's still fast fast yeah 99% of the world but you're not a 400 meter specialist but then on top of that you have to have the endurance ability and the durability to turn your speed or to access your speed when fatigued you know and your abilities interesting actually by the way and those things are much more difficult to measure so the the miss rate or the let's call it the hit rate will be quite low in those disciplines yeah now there are things you can look at I mean body type body shape you know people who are masculine stocky on distance runners you don't see them you know you just look at the start line of a marathon and you can tell it's not that dissimilar from cycling you're gonna win the Tour de France you don't look like a Philippe

againer no possible yeah
Speaker 1
so there's some things that we can do and like that's what I'm most interested in exploring and seeing if there's ways to innovate around that yeah
