Tactic number two of effective story engagement is to explore triangulation. The purpose of questions you don't know the answer to is to explore hunches that you have. Stay in the story and ask a question like, do you have any sense of why your father was that angry about the fact that you spent $50 on a present for mom? You are asking a question to determine if your hunch is accurate.
