Our notions of what it means to function are deeply and forever in armed by how we've been socialized. We should be achieving, not coasting. In a capitalist society we are at risk of valuing people to the degree that they are able to produce an fand when a disability impacts some one's ability to produce,. that person is at risk of being perceived as less valuable and less worthy. i have every confidence that my blind spots have shaped how i think about and how i talk about this topic.
