How Can Reflective Listening Help Me Move Forward in Life?

Use reflective listening to deflect your emotional response and just get the cognition going. Pause before responding, knowledge what the person is saying so they feel heard. Is there some truth to what they've said? Can you learn something and make a change? Are you denying a compliment? Circle back to them when you're ready. Your goal is to stay present, to avoid defensiveness and stop a shame spiral because someone has given you some critical feedback. You're not bad.
