The Role of the Midbrain in Behavior

In mammals, we have to move information to the level of the thalamus that is in the middle of the brain. And then from there, the majority of the mass of the brain is in primates and humans in particular is in the cerebral cortex. So they subma malean species primarily operate at that level and they have well-defined reflexes. Instead of being called a reflex, we would call this like release a stimulus. Release a stimulus creates that generates a pattern. There is a pattern generated that recognizes it.
