Therapists see 99% of their clients have been reading self-help books. One of the biggest hazards for people is getting out kind of bomb steer, I've been sent in the wrong direction. There's a lot of angry people on the internet who are super into self-help and self-improvement that behave in a really aggressive, angry, hostile way. And I think that's because they're getting self-help advice, which is not completely false but it's the wrong advice for them.
This is the audio of an interview I gave recently for Book Club with Kaiden Kelly, talking about How to Think Like a Roman Emperor, Verissimus, and Stoicism, self-help and modern psychology.
