The technique was developed by a fellow named alexander, fred frederick mathias alexander. He was an actor in australia in the late 18 hundreds and lost his voice while performing. Doctors suggested that he rest his voice but when he went back on stage felt hoarseness again. So he decided to set up mirrors like those you would see in a tailor's fitting room. When he began to speak it became clear what had been causing this loss of voice.
