There is a huge list of permissible reasons for refusing an application and they're like pegs that anybody can hang on their rejection. Unstructural tangies, inefficiency, it's very, very easy to say no. The remedies are exceedingly limited as well. So it is little wonder that what employers look out for is not a claim for failure to give a right to flexible working or how it's been dealt with, but an indirect sex discrimination claim.
