The first American to die, but not the first hostage today, he was executed the next day. There had already been some Filipinos that have been executed as the bad guys were escaping from the Philippine Army. So there was a little bit of a body count by that time anyway. It very much looked like they had the bad guys cornered early in the case. They just paid a bribe to get out.
