Malthus argued that the more people there are, the quicker we can develop new ways to grow things. But he failed to account for fact that humans aren't like volvoxes and don't reproduce as quickly in times of famine or hardship. Ecofacism is a system of differential equations that model pray relationships - predators eat a lot of prey but then they go down if there's fewer of them. And you find these cycles in nature which could be explained by malthusianism.
