The flynn effect is the phenomenon that people are getting smarter over time. It was discovered when james flynn realized that test makers who are creating new versions of intelligence tests had to keep making them harder, essentially. The average ic has gone up by about three i c points on the standard scale - where a hundred is the average per decade. There's some evidence now that in some countries it may be levelling off, or even going backwards in places.
