Researchers examined life expectancy for 79 different risk factors in 188 different countries from 1990 until 2013. Dietary risk factors, including low intakes of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds, had the most impact on early death. As world populations age, plant-based diets can reduce the risk of non-communicable chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cancer, and heart disease by almost 50%. The improvements in health will reduce healthcare costs caused by chronic disease.
